New York, NY — It is with much excitement that MDLand attended CCACO’s press conference on Thursday, December 12, 2019. CCACO, an accountable care organization (ACO), announced it has earned $5.1 million in shared savings through the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). This is the fourth consecutive year CCACO has earned shared savings. It is ranked 2nd out of 39 ACOs in New York State, and 6th out of all 548 ACOs nationwide in 2019.
In April 2012, CCACO was the first ACO founded in New York City, and the first Chinese community-centered ACO founded in the nation, under the Medicare Shared Savings Program that promotes Medicare system delivery reform. CCACO is a physician-led ACO made up of more than 220 physicians serving nearly 10,000 patients within the Chinese communities located in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.
MDLand values its partnership with CCACO. MDLand looks forward in continuing to support CCACO in its growth and future successes. Both organizations share the mutual goals in improving care coordination and extending high quality care and improved patient outcomes. This goal ensures that patients get the right care at the right time. It prevents medical errors and avoids unnecessary duplication of services. ACOs that meet performance standards on quality of care are eligible to share in generated savings as performance-based bonus payments. In summary, MDLand’s iClinic EHR assists CCACO and its providers in maximizing these savings.
As the U.S. healthcare industry moves toward a financial model that is based on value rather than volume, it is safe to say the EHR is an integral component of value-based care. MDLand’s iClinic is a meaningful-use certified EHR. It offers quality analysis, clinical decision support, and patient engagement tools that coordinates care, identifies high risk patient groups. Additionally, it tracks patient care outside of the ACO and creates performance data feedback. This helps manage cost and improve care for practices.
Moving Forward
ACOs participating in the MSSP must not only demonstrate cost savings but also demonstrate their ability to maintain quality care, as measured by designated quality measures. MDLand’s robust EHR capabilities supports CCACO and its providers. It offers to monitor its participants’ performance with regard to quality and cost measures. With this intention, it helps practices identify patients who are at higher risk and manage their care accordingly. The use of iClinic is important for reporting through the GPRO tool by directly populating the required quality data. It also allows CCACO to meet additional quality measures. Many of the proposed quality measures are identical to “meaningful use” measures found in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) EHR incentive program.
